Kate Middleton and William launch text service for frontline coronavirus heroes

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have created a text service to support key workers on the coronavirus front line.

Prince William said the Our Frontline project draws on his experience as an air ambulance pilot in East Anglia, which included “very traumatic” callouts.

Charities Mind, the Samaritans, Shout, and Hospice UK will work with the Cambridges’ Royal Foundation to offer one-to-one support and online resources for NHS workers, carers, the Blue Light emergency services and key workers.

William, 37, said: “Every day they confront traumatic situations at the same time as having to contend with their own worries about the risks to themselves and their families.

"That takes a real toll and, as I’ve seen through my work with the Air Ambulance, without the right support at the right time, the challenges they face will only be greater.”

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge has praised the work of two charities she supports, telling staff at Action for Children, which helps kids in poverty: “Your willingness to be there for those that need your help is truly humbling.”

Kate told London’s Evelina Children’s Hospital: “You are all truly inspirational.”

The couple previously spoke to key workers' children who were still going to school.

Prince William and wife Kate dropped in on a show-and-tell session by youngsters whose parents were out on the front line of the nation’s coronavirus battle.

And the Duke, 37, hailed the “good northern volunteering spirit” of staff as they chatted to teachers at Casterton Primary Academy in Lancashire.

Appearing via video link, the children showed the Cambridges pictures of their parents and their Easter bonnets.
