Kate Middleton and Prince William in Glasgow to meet public as two-day Scotland visit begins

Kate Middleton and Prince William will start a two-day visit to Scotland in Glasgow today.

The visit comes ahead of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's engagements focusing on mental health.

The trip will see Kate and William visit Kennishead in the south side to hear how Wheatley Group - Scotland's biggest social landlord - is helping homeless and disadvantaged people across Glasgow.

They will then visit the University of Glasgow, where they will discuss mental health with staff and student before hearing about the pioneering work being done by researchers at the school of Psychology and Neuroscience.

Both William and Kate will then meet members of the public outside of the university.

Prince William is also scheduled to head to the capital to visit Hearts Football Club to hear about the 'Changing Room' programme, which uses football as a vehicle to help men aged 30 to 64 talk about their mental health.

The visit comes just a day after Prince of Wales opened Parliament and delivered the Queen's Speech for the first time in history, after the Monarch reluctantly pulled out on the advice of royal doctors due to her continued mobility problems.

It is the first time in nearly 60 years that the Queen, 96, has missed the occasion.
