Kate Middleton and Prince William had 'chemistry' from day one, says university friend

Kate Middleton and Prince William had a connection from the moment they met, according to a friend who shared a dormitory with them at university.

Prince William was “always paying attention” to Kate whenever she was in the room, Laura Warshauer said.

The singer-songwriter met the couple in 2001 at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where they all lived at St Salvator's Hall.

Laura said there were often ‘small moments’ between the couple which made her believe they would go the distance.

The musician became friends with the prince, who she refers to as 'Will Wales', when he lived down the corridor in halls, and Kate whose room was downstairs.

Her comments come as the Cambridges celebrate ten years of marriage.

Laura, from New Jersey, told People : “Whenever Kate was in the room, Will was obviously paying attention to her.

“When we'd be sitting at lunch in the dining hall and the two of them would be talking, it was amazing to see how natural it was, how they had so much to say to each other.

“Looking back, there were all these small moments—certainly moments where I was like, 'Wow, this could really be something'.'

Laura, who wrote a song for the Cambridges' wedding, has previously discussed their student life together, saying William regularly paid her visits to ask for biscuits and Kate liked to sit on her bed and play guitar.

Laura said Kate “had a lovely way about her” when they first met, while William would “walk around as a normal guy and people didn't make a big deal of it”.

She also previously recalled when William paid £200 for Kate during a 'slave' charity auction, saying: “No one else was winning Kate that night. They already had that connection.”

During their engagement interview in 2010, Kate revealed she blushed when she met the prince and “scuttled off, feeling very shy”.

“It did take a bit of time for us to get to know each other but we did become very close friends from quite early,” she added.

William said: “We moved in together as friends. We lived with a couple of others as well, and it just sort of blossomed from there, really. We just saw more of each other, and you know, hung out a bit more and did stuff.”
