Kate Middleton admits George and Charlotte were 'very upset' by key royal visit

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge get to meet a lot of interesting and exciting people in their royal roles - including world leaders, religious figures and celebrities.

While we're sure Kate and William love chatting to people, we imagine their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis aren't overly bothered about missing out on the meetings.

But there was one day out the Cambridge kids we very disappointed to miss out on, with Kate admitting they were "very upset" with them for going without them.

Last year Kate was invited to officially name a new research vessel after the veteran naturalist and TV presenter.

The public were asked to name the ship, but organisers decided their choice of Boaty McBoatface wasn't really appropriate so picked RRS Sir David Attenborough instead.

During the engagement, Kate and William were shown around the ship with Sir David.

When they greeted each other Kate said, "The children are very upset that we were coming to see you and they weren't coming, they're massive fans of yours.

"They are absolutely fascinated by the programmes."

William adds: "I've got them into the African ones, but they love all the programmes."

Sir David replied: "Do they, do they really?"

The trio also chatted about the new ship while onboard, with William asking Sir David what he thought.

Sir David joked that they hoped they did something about the floor, which was yet to be finished and still covered with a protective layer.

The new clip has been shown as part of a new ITV documentary, Prince William: A Planet for Us All.

On it he speaks about his relationship with Sir David, saying: "Sir David has been a voice for the environment for many, many years. He's been a fantastic inspiration."

But George, Charlotte and Louis finally got to meet their hero when he popped into Kensington Palace last month to watch a new documentary with William.

Sir David presented George with 23-million-year-old fossilised shark tooth from an extinct Carcharocles megalodon - one of the most feared predators to have swum in the seas.

They also had a chance to quiz him about their favourite animals in an adorable new video.

Looking into the camera with his hands smartly behind his back, Prince George, seven, goes first, saying, "Hello David Attenborough, what animal do you think will become extinct next?"

Next is Charlotte, five, who looks shyly past the camera as she says, "Hello David Attenborough, I like spiders, do you like spiders too?"

And then it's the turn of little Louis, two, who asks the broadcaster, "What animal do you like?", although it comes out sounding a little more like "animal".

The footage was recorded at Kensington Palace last month.
