Kate McCann returns to work 14 years after Madeleine went missing

Kate McCann has now “thrown herself” back into the NHS to help out during the Covid pandemic, according to friends

Kate McCann has returned to working in the NHS 14 years after her daughter Madeleine went missing on holiday in Portugal.

The mother quit her GP role to help in the hunt for her daughter in 2007 but she has now “thrown herself” back into the NHS to help out during the Covid pandemic, according to friends.

She is believed to have returned to a hospital in Leicester so she can work alongside husband Gerry who is a top cardiologist.

A family source told The Sun: “Kate’s back working as a doctor. She’s helping out at her local hospitals now and not doing any surgery work.

“She has thrown herself back into a full-time job to assist others in need. There’s such a demand for qualified medics during these unprecedented times.

“Kate’s enjoying doing her little bit to help but we hardly ever see her and Gerry now. They are both so busy.”

Madeleine was three years old when she went missing on May 3rd in 2007 while they were on a family holiday in Portugal.

Detectives had feared that the prime suspect in the case Christian Brueckner may have moved her from Praia da Luz to Germany.

But German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters does not believe this is the case saying Maddie was most likely killed in Portugal.

Brueckner, 43, is currently serving a prison sentence for the rape of a 72-year-old American woman in Portugal.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said the investigation into Madeleine McCann’s disappearance will “continue until there is nothing left to do”.

Speaking to LBC’s Nick Ferrari in May she said: “We are working closely with Portuguese authorities and the German authorities, and we will continue until there is nothing left to do.”

Asked if there are funding issues with the investigation, she said: “There is not a funding issue. So far (we have) received support every time we have felt there was a line of inquiry to pursue.”
