Kate Lawler admits she needs to seriously think about babies as she turns 40 after indecision

Former Big Brother star Kate Lawler has said she really should start thinking about having children as she celebrates turning 40 in lockdown.

The ex-reality star and Virgin Radio presenter, who is quarantined with fiance Martin - better known as Boj - opened up about her concerns on the eve of her big day.

Speaking last night to her Instagram fans, Kate reflected on the last decade.

"I am in the final 40 minutes of my 30s. The big 4-0 tomorrow," she said.

"Do you know what, my 30s have been busy. I've had a busy 10 years. I've moved house 4 times, Birmingham to Manchester, then somewhere else in Manchester. Then Manchester to London, and then London to somewhere else in London.

"I've been a bridesmaid three times. Become an auntie three times. Got a job on Virgin Radio. I fulfilled a lifelong ambition and appeared Celebrity Wipeout and I absolutely stacked it on the red balls. I was convinced I was going to cross them...

"But most importantly I bought Baxter as a puppy at the beginning of my 30s, I adopted Shirley. And I met the Handsome! Met the Handsome, fell in love. Got engaged in my 30s, moved in with the Handsome in my 30s. Planned a wedding in my 30s. It's been great."

Kate then got serious as she told the camera: "I do feel like I should start to think about things like children now I'm hitting 40 tomorrow, like genuinely if I'm going to do it I should start. But the thing is I just don't want one!"

She then swerved off topic, asking fans if face masks can go off because hers smelled "toxic - that combination of B&Q and rotten eggs".

The birthday girl added: "I'm so excited about my birthday tomorrow because I'm getting croissants, and I know that because I saw them in the cupboard earlier. He's so s**t at hiding things."

Kate has questioned her lack of desire about starting a family for years, even launching her Maybe Baby podcast last year to break down the stigma of women who don't feel maternal.

"I feel like we live in a society where women who are open about their desires not to have children are judged," she told Sky News in August 2019.

"There's a real stigma attached to women who decide not to have children and I think that's got to stop."

While she and Boj treat their dogs as their fur babies, Kate did admit she was torn over the idea of having her own children because her fiance would love a baby.

"It's the most torn I've ever been about anything in my entire life because I'm with a man I love, who I want to spend the rest of my life with and I would love to have a baby with him. I would. As in I would love to want to have a baby with him," she admitted.

"And when people say you don't know what you're thinking. 'You'll change your mind.' That's actually quite insulting. We're just trying to do this podcast to help us and to help other people, we don't want to offend anybody. But everyone should respect that not all women want to be mothers and that's OK."
