Kate Hudson discusses taking a 'genderless' approach when raising children

Kate Hudson has spoken about taking a “genderless” approach when raising her children, saying that she doesn’t yet know how her baby daughter will identify when she grows up.

In October 2018 Hudson gave birth to her third child, a baby girl called Rani Rose.

Rani Rose is her first daughter and first child with partner Danny Fujikawa, whom the actor’s been romantically involved with since 2017.

In April 2018, Hudson revealed she was expecting a girl by throwing a ‘gender reveal party’, during which she, Fujikawa and her sons Ryder and Bingham popped balloons to reveal pink confetti inside.

While some may have argued Hudson was reinforcing gender stereotypes by having a ‘gender reveal party’, the Almost Famous actor has now stated she prefers to take a “genderless” approach when parenting her sons and daughter.

Hudson made the statement when asked by AOL whether she's likely to raise Rani Rose in a different manner to 15-year-old Ryder or seven-year-old Bingham.

"It doesn’t really change my approach, but there’s definitely a difference. I think you just raise your kids individually regardless - like a genderless [approach]," she said.

"We still don’t know what she’s going to identify as."

The actor went on to say she believes Rani Rose is "incredibly feminine in her energy".

Hudson recently received praise for posting a photo on Instagram that shows her breastfeeding her baby at work.

“When your workin but babies gotta eat [sic]” she wrote in the caption of the photo, which was taken by photographer Nino Muñoz.

“Thank you for sharing and empowering nursing mums everywhere. Seeing you could quite literally give a mama the courage and strength to continue through all the trials,” one person wrote in response to the image.
