Kate had to lay down the law with Prince Louis on balcony at jubilee celebrations - here's what she said

It was time to lay down the law on the Jubilee balcony. Louis was playing up and mum Kate decided that she was going to step in - and thanks to a lip reader we can actually know what she was saying.

Prince Louis was a handful - like any four year old - but his winsome antics also won the hearts of millions. He was all over the place - holding his hands over ears as loud planes flew over, shutting his mum up but putting his hand over her mouth and sticking his tongue out at her and generally being a handful - like all four year olds.

His exhausted parents released a statement after the event thanking everyone for their amazing support at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations - with the footnote: “We all had an incredible time, especially Louis... “

But on the day she was a bit more short tempered. On the balcony lipreading expert Jeremy Freeman told the Daily Star Kate is said to have seen him picking his nose. The Duchess of Cambridge then put his hand down saying: “You have to.” Louis then replied “I don’t want to”.

He then covered Kate’s mouth. But the Duchess of Cambridge then explained to her son: “I said no hands...” She then told Louis “look” and pointed at the parade.

When he blew her a raspberry, she replied: “Stop doing that.” Louis stood on his chair, waved his hands in the air, wriggled around and stuck his finger in his ear during the show.

In a personal message, alongside images from the weekend’s events, they tweeted: “What a fantastic weekend of celebrations.

“Seeing people across the nation coming together with family, friends and loved ones has been extremely special. Thank you to everyone who turned out to show their gratitude to The Queen and her inspiring 70 years of leadership. From the crowds on the Mall to communities hosting street parties up and down the country, we hope you had a weekend to remember.”

The Queen has said she remains “committed to serving” the nation to “the best of my ability”, after she appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace on Sunday at the end of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The 96-year-old monarch was absent for much of the extended Bank Holiday weekend events, after finding the first day enjoyable but tiring, and in a message of thanks acknowledged this but said her “heart” had been with well-wishers.
