Kate Garraway to visit Derek Draper after Good Morning Britain

Kate Garraway today told Good Morning Britain viewers that she is visiting her husband Derek Draper after work.

The presenter will head to the hospital after she finishes her shift on the ITV programme with Ben Shephard.

Kate, 53, also revealed that Derek’s nurses are putting GMB on for him to see if there is any indication that he can see or hear her.

Derek, 52, started to come around from his medically induced coma, which he was put into after contracting coronavirus almost four months ago.

He is now free from the virus, but it has badly damaged his organs.

Kate told her co-host Ben Shephard: "I might be able to go and visit Derek after the show. In fact the nurses are going to put Good Morning Britain on for him.

"So they’ve got a TV - obviously we don’t know what he can hear or see - and they’re putting it on this morning.

"They didn’t actually realise I was on air yesterday. They’re focussing on priorities. But they’re going to put it for him.”

Kate made an emotional return to work on Monday after being given compassionate leave to look after her family while Derek fought covid-19.

Kate, 53, has had an outpouring of support from well wishers while she tends to their two children, Darcey, 14, and Billy, 11 - many of whom are famous faces.

She told viewers that former Manchester United footballer David Beckham is one of them.

She told co-host Ben Shephard: "He very sweetly contacted me on Instagram in a private message saying, 'Is there anything I can do to help?'

"I was tempted to say, 'What about your missus' wardrobe? That would be helpful' - on a joking level.

"I thought it was very, very sweet of him, and me telling Darcey and Billy you've contacted me. They just said, 'no way'.

"They were so pleased, I said that's enough, thank you."

GMB airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
