Kate Garraway to return to GMB this week as husband 'wakes up' from coma

Kate Garraway is set to make a surprise return to Good Morning Britain this week, after revealing that husband Derek Draper has 'woken up' from a coma he's been in for months.

The past few months have been living hell for GMB host Kate and her two children after other half Derek was struck down by coronavirus.

While, at first it was hoped that the former Labour aide's stay in hospital would be a short one, Derek's condition deteriorated rapidly and he was put into an induced coma.

Last month Kate revealed that he is now "free" from coronavirus but vital organs have been left severely damaged as he fought for his life.

However, in an interview with Hello at the weekend, Kate said she believes Derek can now hear her, telling the magazine: "I really believe he can hear. When medical staff say: 'Good morning, Derek,' he sometimes opens his eyes. We and the doctors are doing everything we can so that he can start to recover."

And Kate is expected to give a further update on Derek's condition on GMB on Wednesday, with co-host Piers Mogan revealing: "We're going to talk to Kate on Wednesday before we go off for the summer.

"She's going to have something more to say about this but it's certainly premature at the moment to think that Derek isn't in any way out of the woods, sadly, on this and he remains in a very serious critical condition."

Over the weekend, Kate's I'm A Celebrity pal from last year, Rak-Su's Myles Stephenson says his heart was breaking for her family, revealing: "It breaks my heart, I have such a close relationship with them all - including Derek.

"Kate knows I am there for her at the drop of a dime - for her and the kids - anything she needs. She has taken me up on the offer a few times, but I don't really want to say what she's asked of.

"It's just about looking out for the kids and being a big brother to them. It's been very hard. All we can do is pray for Derek and pray for Kate and the kids as well."
