Kate Garraway considers herself lucky because her husband Derek Draper is still alive, her friend has claimed.
Derek has spent the last 12 months in hospital after contracting coronavirus in March 2020, and was even in an induced coma, with doctors describing him as having the worst Covid infection of any living patient.
The Good Morning Britain presenter's friend Clare Nasir has said she doesn't think of all the negatives as she knows that she's lucky that Derek has survived.
Clare told Closer magazine: "Kate doesn't think of the negatives of how unlucky her situation is - she more thinks, 'wow, he's survived when so many haven't...

"These last few months have been some of the darkest times for Kate but, incredibly, she's stayed so strong and positive - hope is what drives her through."
But Clare admitted that Kate faces difficult times ahead as Derek remains in hospital while lockdown restrictions begin to lift.
She added: "While she's obviously delighted that it seems we may be beating this virus in some way and deaths and cases are dropping, the lifting of lockdown and things opening up will be a constant reminder that life is moving on and things are getting better - but not for her."

Kate recently filmed a documentary about Derek's Covid battle called Finding Derek, which aired on ITV this week.
A devastating moment showed Derek tell Kate he "can't go on" after he woke up from his coma.
He told her on FaceTime: "Kate, there's no way out. I've got to the point where I just think f**k it."

She replied: "I promised you that I would save you and I'm gonna save you.
"I will find a way, but you just have to hang in there."
Though Derek is now free of Covid it has wreaked havoc on his body, leaving him dealing with kidney failure, damage to his liver and pancreas and heart failure,.

Derek is now awake and able to communicate better with Kate and their two children, Darcey, 14, and Billy, 11.
The family were seen adapting the house in preparation for Derek to come home, but he may be in hospital until the end of this year.
He told her at the end of the documentary: "Thank you and I love you forever and a day."
The documentary Kate Garraway: Finding Derek won the 9pm slot earlier this week with 4.5million viewers. This was ITV's biggest factual overnight audience in the Tuesday 9pm slot in at least a decade.
It was also the channel's biggest factual overnight audience across all days in the 9pm slot since Long Lost Family: Born Without Trace back in June last year and the biggest single documentary audience since The Queen's Green Planet in 2018.
