Kate Garraway supported as Derek's health takes 'unexpected and frightening' turn

Kate Garraway has thanked fans for their messages of support after her husband's health took "an unexpected and frightening" turn.

The Good Morning Britain star reassured fans she would be back on the programme tomorrow after taking some time off over the past three weeks. The 55-year-old broadcaster has helped care for Derek Draper since the former political advisor fell seriously ill with Covid-19 in March 2020.

Kate has helped care for Derek through his ongoing health battle where he has struggled with major health problems. The former lobbyist has been unable to fully communicate and has issues with mobility.

Several days ago it was reported Derek was back in hospital after taking a " very serious turn for the worse ". In an Instagram post from today, Sunday, July 31, Kate, who has two children with Derek, addressed his recent health struggles.

She said: "I have taken some time off Good Morning Britain, Smooth Radio and Garraway's Good Stuff in the last three weeks as Derek's health took an unexpected and frightening turn for the worse that landed him back in intensive care and fighting for his life - again. Thanks to the amazing NHS team and his own extraordinary life force and spirit Derek - please God."

Kate also used the post to thank fans "for all your messages of support". She added: "They really do mean the world to me and the whole family."

She confirmed Derek is "back on the right side of it now" and she'll be back on Good Morning Britain from 6am tomorrow, Monday, August 1. She added she hopes the show can celebrate a England Women's Football Team win. The Lionesses play Germany in the final of the Women's Football World Cup tonight at 5pm.

Kate signed off the post: "Love and see you in the morning."
