Kate Garraway slammed by Good Morning Britain viewers for insensitive question to London Bridge hero

Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway has been blasted by viewers, who were left in disbelief by her insensitive question to a hero of last year's London Bridge terror attack.

In an eventful morning for ITV presenter Kate, which also saw her she interviewed John Crilly, one of the first people on the scene in November when terrorist Usman Khan kill Cambridge graduates Saskia Jones and Jack Merritt.

Opening up about the lasting impact witnessing the attack has had on him, John said it "haunted" him to which Kate asked "why?" to the shock of plenty of GMB viewers at home.

Taking to Twitter , one ranted: "Why does it haunt you? What a f****** question"

"When he said it still haunts him Kate is asking why? Jesus," added another.

A third said: "This bloke might feel more able to answer questions if they were put to him as more of a conversation not an interrogation"

Replying to Kate's controversial question, John said: "Just because people lost their lives and they shouldn’t have," before recalling the attack, which started at offender rehabilitation conference in Fishmongers' Hall.

He explained: "We were fighting inside for what seemed like five or 10 minutes. Initially I was on my own with a lectern. I was looking for something to defend myself with.

"It was like a conversation but shouting. Most of it was probably non-sensical. The only thing I remember him saying when I asked about the belt was that he was waiting for the police before he blew it."
