Kate Garraway shares update on how 'different' husband Derek Draper looks after three months in coma

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway has shared on update on how 'different' her husband Derek Draper looks after spending three months in a coma.

Derek, 52, was placed in an induced coma in April after contracting Covid-19.

There was a glimmer of hope for Kate's husband after she revealed that he began to open his eyes.

In an interview with HELLO!, Kate explained that Derek still remains in a 'minimal state of consciousness' and may never fully recover.

She also described how 'different' her husband looks in an update on his condition.

Speaking to HELLO!, she said: "Derek's lost a huge amount of weight and when the nurse shaved him because his beard had grown so long, he looked so different..

"They'd [their children] never seen him without stubble or a beard before. During their chats, they tell him what they've been doing, and their sense of humour often shines through”.

Kate added: "In my heart, I feel that he understands me. I reassure him that he's doing brilliantly and not to worry; that the doctors are doing everything they can and we're going to bring him home soon.”

Colleague Piers Morgan clarified the update on GMB, saying that Derek was not 'out of the woods yet'.

He said: "A few papers doing a lot of coverage on our colleague and our friend Kate Garraway today.

"They are covering the situation on her husband Derek Draper and it is probably not quite as positive a story as papers would perhaps believe.

"So we just have a little clarification from Kate's representatives.

"These headlines [The Sun's 'KATE HUBBY OUT OF COMA'] may carry a level of optimisim which may not yet be justified.

"We hope, as does Kate, that there will be further evidence of a recovery.

"But it will be a slow and an uncertain path. We will hear more from Kate when we talk to her later in the week.

"So we're going to talk to Kate, I think on Wednesday, before we go off for the summer, and she'll have something I'm sure to say about this.

"I think it is definitely premature at the moment to say or suggest Derek is out of the woods, sadly.

"He remains in a very serious and critical condition."
