Kate Garraway shares daughter's heartbreaking message to lockdown rule breakers after seeing dad Derek in hospital

Kate Garraway has told of the heartbreaking message her daughter asked her to share to lockdown rule breakers.

The Good Morning Britain host was back on screens on Thursday after Christmas.

She revealed that she and her two children - Darcey, 14, and 11-year-old Billy - were able to see husband and dad Derek Draper in hospital.

It is the first time the two children have seen their dad since he was rushed into ICU with coronavirus in March. While Derek is now free from the virus, it has "wreaked havoc" on his body and he is still in recovery.

Speaking on ITV's GMB, Dr Hilary argued that it was wrong to put a deadline on when the latest lockdown measures could end to which Kate confessed meant she was unable to see her husband.

This lead Kate, 53, to explain what her teenager asked her.

"Darcey says, 'I just want to tell everyone please follow the rules everyone because I can't stand this any longer'," she said.

"And I think that is the answer, please lets stick to it this time and hopefully we'll get through it."

Speaking about visiting Derek over Christmas, Kate said it was "wonderful" for the children to finally be reunited with their dad, but "amplified how sad everything was".

She said: "Of course, it was very heightened with emotion because he's very changed... It was one of those moments where it was so wonderful but then also it sort of amplified how sad everything was, and how different it is.

"But it was still fantastic and I'm very grateful to have had that opportunity."
