Kate Garraway shares daughter's heartbreaking message after Derek Draper hospital visit

Kate Garraway revealed that her 14-year-old daughter Darcey had a poignant message for the nation while her dad Derek Draper remains in hospital.

Darcey and her 11-year-old brother Billy were finally allowed in to see their dad for the first time, after he was rushed to ICU at the end of March 2020 with coronavirus.

The 53-year-old Good Morning Britain presenter was chatting to Dr Hilary Jones about the latest pandemic updates when she opened up about her daughter's struggles.

It comes while Kate's husband Derek remains one of the longest Covid-19 patients in intensive care after contracting the virus in March 2020.

Speaking on GMB this morning, Dr Hilary argued that it was wrong to put a deadline on when the latest lockdown measures could end.

"I think putting a time deadline on anything now is a mistake, I think offering people the promise of coming out of lockdown by the end of February, by the middle of March, it'll only be right to come out of lockdown when its safe to do so," he explained.

While the presenters agreed with the medic, Kate also pointed out that the mental toll the latest lockdown will have - especially on children - will be massive.

"By putting a date on it, it gives us a target to aim for," Ben Shepherd added.

"And even if that shifts and even if there are a lightening of restrictions but it doesn't stop completely. Giving a target is such an important thing."

To round off the segment, Kate relayed what Darcey had told her.

"Darcey says, 'I just want to tell everyone please follow the rules everyone because I can't stand this any longer'," Kate explained.

"And I think that is the answer, please lets stick to it this time and hopefully we'll get through it."

Derek has been fighting for his life with complications having contracted coronavirus in March.

During the show, Kate also revealed that the family had finally been able to visit Derek in hospital over the Christmas period.

But she explained that the visit it made it even sadder seeing how different he is now since Covid-19 affected him so horribly.
