Kate Garraway says Royal Family offered to help husband Derek Draper

Kate Garraway has revealed that a member of the royal family offered to help her husband Derek Draper as he battled coronavirus in hospital.

Derek has finally returned home after being in hospital for over a year, after covid-19 left him with multiple serious health issues.

But during Derek's fight with the virus Good Morning Britain host Kate said that a member of the royal family sent her a letter, offering some help.

In the letter the royal offered the use of the Royal physician to help with Derek - reports Mirror Online.

Kate spoke about the "utterly surreal" gesture in her new memoir Kate Garraway: The Power Of Hope that has been serialised in the Mail On Sunday.

Mum-of-two Kate kept the royal's identity a secret but wrote in her book: "One day I received a letter from a member of the Royal Family, offering the services of a Royal physician.

"How lovely, I thought, although it seemed utterly surreal."

In her new book Kate also spoke about how David Beckham helped the family during their difficult year.

Kate said that David sent personal video messages to her children as Derek battled to stay alive.

Mum-of-two Kate explained that David recorded messages of encouragement for Darcey, 15, and Billy, 11, last year.

The TV host said that David, 45, reached out to her on Instagram after Derek was put into an induced coma.

Kate wrote in her book: "I hadn’t had the chance to look at social media so it was Darcey and Billy who spotted it and squealed with delight.

"I messaged him back, thanking him and saying the kids were thrilled."

Kate revealed that the father-of-four went on to send personalised videos to give her children encouragement during the difficult time, writing: "He sent a personal video to each of them – words of encouragement and fun. He said he’d been thinking of his own kids and how they might feel."

Kate has completely transformed her home to make it easier for her husband Derek now that he's home.

The transformations included turning their garage into a wet room and installing a ramp outside their property.

All of the changes were documented on the tear-jerking documentary Finding Derek on ITV earlier this year.
