Kate Garraway says PM and Carrie's John Lewis jibe proves how 'snooty' they are

Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway has commented on the scandal surrounding Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his fiancée Carrie Symonds, mother of his baby, Wilfred.

It came amid reports the residential flat space above 10 Downing Street was described as a "John Lewis nightmare" and so the couple embarked on a lavish spending spree to refurbish.

The revamp has sparked controversy as after the £30,000 in expenses MPs are entitled to, the Prime Minister received almost £60,000 more from an undeclared donor, causing concerns over cronyism and sleaze.

The Electoral Commission has opened a formal investigation into the funding, and Mr Johnson and Symonds may be interviewed under caution and forced to hand over emails and documents.

Discussing the scandal, Entertainment Correspondent Richard Arnold laughed at John Lewis' sassy response to the remark, after the brand's official Twitter account posted a photo of one of its vans outside Downing Street.

They wrote the caption: "Good thing we have a recycling service for old pre-loved furniture".

Richard laughed: "It's a sign of the times when you are being trolled by the friendliest face on the high street!"

Kate replied: "Well also, since when is John Lewis not posh?

"It shows how snooty they are, because I think, 'God if I've got something from John Lewis I've done really well!"

Host Susanna Reid then explained: "I think this quote has been attributed to Carrie or Boris, but I think it was just a visitor, an anonymous visitor who said it was a "John Lewis nightmare" but I don't know the sources.

"And frankly I am not prepared to go under oath and answer questions on this!" she laughed.

"I love a John Lewis nightmare, blimey, I love an Ikea nightmare, M&S!" she added.

"I love a Primark Home nightmare!" Kate chimed in. "Great bargains!"
