It's been a torturous year for the family, but Kate Garraway has praised her kids for how they've coped with dad Derek Draper's covid battle.
Derek, 53, has only recently returned home after over a year in hospital fighting Covid-19.
And presenter Kate, also 53, has told how the pair's children - Darcey, 15, and 11-year-old William - are "coping extraordinarily" with his return.
She has explained how the youngsters are frequently spending time talking to and hugging their father.
Speaking with Iain Dale on LBC, the Good Morning Britain presenter revealed that the kids have even been able to make him smile in a "reassuring way" as he is smiling at things he would have found amusing before he was placed in a coma last year.
Kate had previously released extracts from her new book to the Mail on Sunday in which she revealed some harrowing text messages Derek sent her just before he was placed in an induced coma.
The Smooth radio host told how Derek had sent his kids a text where he looked upbeat.
But he revealed the heartbreaking truth to his partner as he explained in a private message to her that he had planned his own funeral.
He even said he was unsure whether he wanted their two children to attend should it have happened.
He text her: "OK, not for the kids. I've been playing down how really awful it is.
"It is second after second of being locked in a mask thinking every second you're going to die."
While the family know that they still have a long road ahead despite Derek returning home, there have been positive signs in his recovery.
Kate joyfully told how her husband had complimented her on a new dress.
She gushed: "I walked in the other morning just before I left to go to Smooth [radio] and I said, 'I'm off to Smooth now,' and he said, 'New dress?' which was just amazing. And it was, actually!
"And I thought that was amazing on so many levels because he recognised it, second, he realised to remember that I need a lot of flattery."
