Kate Garraway's son Billy pulled out of school after classmate tested positive for Covid

Kate Garraway has confirmed that her son Billy was forced to isolate last week after one of his school classmates tested positive for coronavirus.

Whilst hosting Good Morning Britain on Wednesday with Ben Shephard, the duo discussed whether or not children should be vaccinated.

They also revealed that Government figures confirmed more than one million children in England were out of school last week due to the pandemic.

One in every seven pupils were out of lessons, with the majority forced to self-isolate because a classmate had tested positive.

Kate, 54, then commented:: "Billy was one of them last week. One of his band tested positive, so to be safe they were all at home."

She then joked: "I mean he wasn't heartbroken... But then [her daughter] Darcey is a totally different view."

Kate shares her children, 15-year-old Darcey and 11-year-old Billy, with her husband Derek Draper who was hospitalised in March 2020 with Covid.

Derek was admitted to an intensive care unit and in early June, he still remained in a critical condition after ten weeks, and was in an induced coma.

The following month, he had opened his eyes, but still remained in hospital in a serious condition.

Derek, 53, was finally able to return back to the family home in April of this year on a trial basis but still requires round-the-clock care.

Earlier this month, Kate gave an update on Derek's condition and confirmed there is still long road ahead to his recovery.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, she said: "He’s alright, he’s alright. He’s very up and down, we’re certainly not a long way out of the woods."

Referring to why he came home earlier this year, Kate confirmed: "Not because he was better, no. But being home has meant we’ve seen some things improved.

"Definitely having the family around, having the children around has provided stimulation and I think the problem is you latch on to the positives, which is good because you have to, but there’s absolutely no doubt that there’s huge challenges ahead," Kate added.

In June it was revealed that Kate had been told her hubby is unlikely to recover if there isn’t any progress two years on from catching the deadly virus that has ravaged his poorly body.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
