Kate Garraway's return to GMB confirmed for this week as Derek Draper wakes from coma

Television journalist Kate Garraway will make her return to Good Morning Britain later this week.

The 53-year-old broadcaster has been mostly absent from our screens as her husband Derek Draper has fought for his life against Covid-19.

Draper has been in hospital since the end of March and has now started to regain consciousness after doctors took him out of his coma.

However, Kate's husband still remains in intensive care and is not out of the woods yet.

Fans of Kate have been showing huge support for her and her family and now will receive an update from the mother-of-two herself this week as she speaks to co-stars Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain.

Piers revealed that Kate would be making a return to Good Morning Britain on Wednesday to provide an update on her situation.

"We're going to talk to Kate on Wednesday before we go off for the summer," he said.

"She's going to have something more to say about this but it's certainly premature at the moment to think that Derek isn't in any way out of the woods, sadly, on this and he remains in a very serious critical condition."

Despite this upcoming discussion with her Good Morning Britain colleagues, there is no set return date for Kate to resume her presenting duties.

Piers himself will also be taking a break from presenting duties from Wednesday, as he and Susanna take a much-needed break during the school holidays.

Meanwhile, Kate is also a regular presenter on Smooth Radio but has taken a leave of absence due to the issues surrounding Derek's health.

There is no current return date for her to be on the radio waves as of yet, with friend and colleague Myleene Klass has been covering for throughout the health crisis.

Good Morning Britain presenter Lorraine Kelly noted on Derek's health today: "There absolutely is a glimmer of hope, there always has been, but a little bit a note of caution because it's such a slow process."

Mirror Online has requested comment from Smooth Radio regarding her return date.

Good Morning Britain continues on weekdays on ITV.
