Kate Garraway's husband Derek proposed to her again before coronavirus fight

Kate Garraway's husband popped the question to her again last year, months before he was struck down by coronavirus.

Kate's other half, writer and famous Labour aide Derek Draper, is still in a grave condition in intensive care after contracting COVID-19 at the end of March.

While she revealed that he is now free of the virus, Derek remains in a coma and a number of his vital organs have been severely damaged.

Last week, Kate's GMB colleague Piers Morgan revealed that the couple were planning to renew their vows this year before they were plunged into the horror of the past few months.

And now he has revealed more details, including the fact that Derek popped the question again to Kate after she left the jungle in I'm A Celebrity last year.

Writing in his Daily Mail column, Piers revealed that last time he saw the couple, who have two children together, was at his annual pub Christmas knees-up" in December.

He explained: "They were blissfully happy that night, as could be seen from their kissing and cuddling for the paparazzi outside – and were buzzing with excitement about renewing their wedding vows this summer, after Derek proposed to her again when they were reunited in the jungle."

Last week, Piers said that Kate was having to face up to a heartbreaking revelation about Derek's future, saying: ""Now, agonisingly, Kate doesn’t even know if she will ever get Derek home again, let alone to renew those vows.

"It’s unbearably, gut-wrenchingly sad."
