Kate Garraway's 'hope' as Tier 4 rules risk plans to spend Christmas with husband Derek

Kate Garraway is remaining hopeful after the latest Tier 4 rules put her Christmas with husband Derek Draper at risk.

The Good Morning Britain host was hoping that she and children Darcey and Billy could visit Derek on Christmas Day in hospital.

Former lobbyist and political adviser Derek, 53, is still seriously ill despite being free of coronavirus after being first admitted to hospital with the virus in March.

Kate said on GMB this week that her "dream" was for her and the kids to see Derek on Christmas Day.

She also said she wanted "to avoid" it being just herself, Darcy and Billy over the festive period as she feels "that would make Derek's absence feel huge and the rest of the family’s absence feel huge."

However, the Prime Minister's announcement on Saturday afternoon that London and the south east would be placed under Tier 4 lockdown measures could change that.

Kate's GMB co-host Charlotte Hawkins tweeted after the announcement: "Just when we thought this year couldn’t get any worse…. #christmasiscancelled."

A concerned follower replied: "I truly hope in all of this @kategarraway & her children gets to form a bubble and to see Derek. It’s hard for all of us, but harder for her as her situation is unique. Ella-Rose will keep you busy I’m sure."

Kate happened to see the comment herself and replied: "I hope so too Fatimah – not quite clear at the moment but thank you for thinking of me and the others in the same situation xxx."
