Kate Garraway's heartbreaking home discovery as husband Derek fights for his life in coma

Kate Garraway has revealed the heartbreaking thing she discovered in her home as her husband Derek Draper remains fighting for his life in a coma.

Derek has been in intensive care for ten weeks after he was hospitalised with breathing difficulties before testing positive for the coronavirus.

Now Good Morning Britain presenter Kate, 53, has revealed she sometimes "can't bear" to look around the home she shares with her husband and their two children - Darcey, 14, and William, 10.

She was particularly upset by the family calendar, which her husband usually updates on recycling day - marking it with an 'R'."

She told The Sun : "His writing is all over it — then suddenly we turned the page for June and it just stopped because he hadn't planned that far ahead.

"There are times when I can’t bear to look around this house.

Kate and Derek have been married since 2005 (PA)

"It’s full of things he’s chosen and we’ve chosen together, and when Darcey and Billy are with each other... there are moments as parents where you take pleasure because you see them do something, or change in some way, and that bonds you."

Kate has also revealed the toll coronavirus has taken on her husband's body.

She said the virus has "attacked everything" and left him with clots in his lungs, holes in his heart and made him diabetic.

Kate admitted Derek may never recover despite now being free of Covid-19.

It comes after Kate made her emotional return to Good Morning Britain to talk about Derek's progress.

Speaking with tears in her eyes, Kate said: "The fight with the virus has been won and he's still here but it's wreaked extraordinary damage on his body and we don't know if he can recover from that."
