Kate Garraway's GMB co-stars send birthday wishes amid husband Derek's coronavirus battle

Kate Garraway 's Good Morning Britain co-stars Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid sent birthday wishes to the star amid her husband's battle with coronavirus.

TV presenter Ben, 45, sat alongside Susanna, 49, on Monday as he wished Kate a happy 53rd birthday and updated viewers on Derek's condition with the illness.

Filling in for Piers Morgan, who is self-isolating at home after showing symptoms of the virus, Ben said: "We want to say a happy birthday to Kate, who turns forty thirteen today."

He explained Kate is with her family as Derek is still "critically ill" in hospital with the bug.

"She's with her family, of course, keeping everything crossed because Derek is still critically ill," Ben updated viewers.

"We just want to say happy birthday Kate. However you can celebrate today. I'm sure that Darcey and Billy have got a cake or something. We're sending you lots and lots of love."

Susanna also sweetly revealed her colleague "doesn't look a day over 25" as she joined in with Ben.

Kate is spending the day without her husband Derek, 52, who was rushed into hospital with symptoms on March 30.

She has previously described it as the "hardest" time of her life.

On Thursday, the GMB host shared a video on Instagram as she clapped for the NHS with her family.

Alongside the clip, she wrote: "Derek is still with us but what a battle it is. So grateful too for our amazing NHS doing so much for Derek everyday."

The following morning saw her co-hosts Ben and Ranvir Singh give another update on Derek, and revealed he remains "unresponsive".

Kate's co-hosts have been super supportive as she tries to continue every day life at home with her two children.
