Kate Garraway's emotional GMB co-stars 'send love' after 'poignant' update about Derek

Kate Garraway's Good Morning Britain co-stars "sent their love" to the presenter after she said that she was going through "terrible times" during her husband Derek's coronavirus struggle.

The GMB host, 53, gave an update on her husband last night and said he was "fighting so hard".

Her message read: "Derek is still with us, fighting so hard to beat this virus & everyday I am awestruck by how hard every member of the nhs team is fighting to turn things around & bring him ( & so many others) home to their loved ones.

"You are amazing - thank you thank you Sending love to you all in these terrible times."

Presenter Charlotte Hawkins, who was joined by Ben Shephard, appeared emotional as she said: "Well Kate, we send so much love back to you.

"This is especially a poignant moment for Kate, so sending lots of love."

This comes after Ben, 45, wished Kate happy birthday earlier on in the week as she spend the day away from her husband for the first time in years.

Susanna Reid added: "She doesn't look a day over 25."

"I'm sure that Darcey and Billy have got a cake or something, but we're sending lots and lots of love."

Kate has been speaking to husband Derek, 52, on the phone every day but does not know whether he is responding.

He has been in hospital since March and Ben previously spoke about how Kate was given comfort by talking to Derek.

He said: "Staff are taking a phone in the evenings and she can talk to her husband.

"She has no idea if he is responding, but she hopes that he is.

"It's a source of comfort."
