Kate Garraway's daughter 'asked if she was going to kill herself'

Kate Garraway revealed that her daughter Darcey asked her mum if she was going to kill herself as her dad Derek Draper battled coronavirus in hospital.

GMB presenter Kate appeared on This Morning today to speak about her and her family's unimaginable year as her husband Derek tried to fight covid-19.

Derek is now home with the family but Kate said that the "challenges go on" and that he still needed 24-hour specialist medical care.

Kate tried to remain positive for her and Derek's two children Darcey and Billy, but told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield about the shocking question Darcey asked her during the darkest days of Derek's illness.

Kate said : "I think they were wondering would I be okay, would I be able to keep going.

"Darcey said to me 'are you going to kill yourself?'

"That sounds horrific obviously, but she is just really blunt and will go to the most awful thing she can imagine.

"I said 'oh my God no, oh my God why would you think that?'

"Darcey said she thought she'd better check but I told her it was the absolute opposite and I was so scared that she thought of that.

"But she just wanted affirmation that I was okay, it made me realise she was thinking very much of me and not her dad."

Phil asked how the family were coping with Derek being home and Kate said: "What I've learnt now is that actually everything is always so changed and there is a huge way to go.

"He's physically very changed and we have a very different life.

"We've got incredible support and hopefully he can stay at home but he does need a huge amount of support.

"The kids have been extraordinary, he's been out of their life for a year so they've been amazing and they're brilliant with him.

"They know what he needs, we can touch him and hug him, Billy will want to hold his hand but then know when to let it go."
