Kate Garraway's dad leaves her on verge of tears with moving message on Life Stories

Kate Garraway was left broken by a message from her dad during her appearance on Piers Morgan's Life Stories.

As she prepares to take over from her former Good Morning Britain colleague to host the ITV ratings winner, Kate was Piers' final interview subject.

Taking her place in the hot seat opposite him, Kate faced questions on everything from her past relationships, which saw her reveal she was once dumped by a famous rock star; her early career and or course, her husband Derek Draper who was ravaged by Covid last year.

Piers talked with Kate at length about Derek and his recovery, since he was finally allowed to return home in April this year.

Kate admitted that things are incredibly tough for her, Derek and their whole family and then sat and watched as a video montage about his Covid battle played out on screen.

It ended with Kate's mum tearing up as she spoke about how how hard things had been, while Kate and Derek's children spoke highly of how she'd coped.

Kate was already on the verge of tears from watching the video, when Piers passed over to her dad Gordon who was sitting in the audience.

Piers asked: "How do you feel, as her father, about the way Kate has handled this?" to which Gordon replied: "You're always so strong whatever you're facing.

"You amaze us all the time in the way that you show the strength that you're not going to be defeated.

"And I think this is an inspiration to everybody."

As Gordon himself got choked up and applause echoed around the Life Stories studio, Kate tried to gain composure and reacted: "Well, that's really done it for me now. Oh my god, I've never seen my dad so emotional as well.

"Sorry Dad."
