Kate Garraway reveals husband Derek has had 'a tough week' in hospital

Kate Garraway revealed on Friday that her husband Derek Draper had had 'a tough week' as he remains in hospital following his battle with coronavirus.

More than seven months have now passed since the former Labour aide contracted COVID-19 and, while initially it was hoped his stay in hospital would be brief, his condition rapidly deteriorated and he was placed in a medically induced coma by doctors.

He has been free of coronavirus for a number of months now but the virus has had a devastating effect on his his body, with vital organs severely damaged and his weight plummeting.

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate has been giving her colleagues and viewers regular updates on Derek's condition since she returned to the show in the summer and on Friday's show, which fell on National Kindness Day, Ben quizzed Kate on all the support she and her family have received, especially after she recently revealed their car had been stolen.

He said to her: "The car was stolen which we are all furious and frustrated about

"The thing we want to talk about is the outpouring of support you have had from people, viewers, companies.

"Oh, unbelievably! So nice, so nice," Kate replied.

"And it's been kind of a tough old week for Derek, so I haven't got back to anybody and I haven't sorted it out yet.

But it's been so lovely, and some viewers even offered to lend me their cars....honestly I am constantly blown away about how lovely you've been about all of this, and it's that kind of generosity and kindness that will get us through."
