Kate Garraway reunites with family on Cornwall break for first time in 18 months

Kate Garraway reunited with her family for the first time in 18 months on her Cornwall break.

The presenter has had a terrible time during the coronavirus pandemic, as her husband Derek Draper has spent most of the time in hospital battling the virus, and she has become a full time carer for Derek now he's back at home with the family.

So she whisked herself off to Cornwall for a well-deserved break with her kids Darcey and Billy and she got a chance to reunite with her family including her brother, her aunts, uncles, cousins and the family's new additions.

"We got to see my brother aunts uncles cousins & new baby cousins! None of us have been able to get to see each other since Xmas 2019 . So much love & v emotional," she wrote on Instagram.

Kate shared a video of her children playing with their cousins as the sun set behind them.

However, she confessed the time apart from her family didn't make any of them less competitive.

Derek is now back home with the family after months in hospital. However, he still needs round-the-clock care and Kate thinks their kids have been "heroes" throughout the whole ordeal.

"He isn’t really able to speak at the moment so he can’t tell them off. I have to be the bad guy! They are my heroes. They know instinctively how to talk to him but not ask too much from him," she said.

Kate admits the past 18 months have been harrowing for her and she's not always been as strong as she seemed.

"You're very sweet to say that, but I don't think I have been particularly strong; I have been supported incredibly by lots and lots of people. It's strange as people say to me: 'How do you keep going?' and I'm not sure what the alternative to keeping going is," she explained.

"Folding is something that doesn't feel like an option … Although in quiet moments there have been tears and moments of thinking: 'This is unsustainable, I can't do it.'"
