Kate Garraway returns to Good Morning Britain presenting duties

Kate Garraway has returned to her Good Morning Britain presenting duties after taking time off while her husband is ill.

Derek Draper, 52, was admitted to hospital with coronavirus in March and was put into a coma by doctors and is still in hospital receiving ongoing treatment.

Opening the show, Kate said that it had been a difficult start to her return as the car to bring her to the studio had not turned up, reports The Mirror.

Then once in the studio, she had issues with her computer needing to make two hour update before she found the autocue not working.

Returning to the screen with co-host Ben Shephard at 6am this morning, Kate joked that he can't be too nice or she will "get emotional".

The 53-year-old said: "Don't be too nice because I'll get emotional, just go back to being rude."

Ben said it was lovely to have Kate back before she revealed she had prepared for her return.

"If ever there's a professional crisis, fake tan, put very long false eyelashes on and go blonder. That was my preparation tactic for coming back this morning.

Piers Morgan is now on his two month summer break along with Susanna Reid so Kate will be appearing with Ben instead.

Last week, Kate said during an interview with the ITV programme that her husband can "sort of can't wake up" and doctors "don't know how much better" he will get.

"Wonderfully his eyes are opening but we have no real knowledge of what he can see and feel and hear," she said.
