Kate Garraway recalls meeting Prince William who could relate to her two children having an 'absent parent'

Kate Garraway has recalled her recent meeting with Prince William and Kate on today's Good Morning Britain.

The topic of conversation came up on the ITV news programme as they discussed the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's tenth wedding anniversary being marked today.

This lead to Kate, 53, talking about having met William and Kate last year while her husband Derek Draper was in hospital.

"They related very much to the children and what it was like to have a father that was absent and sick," the presenter explained on Thursday's GMB.

"Of course, William knows all about what it was like to have a parent who was not there."

Kate then went on to talk about her observations when meeting the couple, who married on April 29 2011 with the whole world watching.

"Actually, watching them when they were just talking to each other and getting ready for things, and her sort of dusting off his shoulder, I thought gosh, what a lovely team you two are.

"They felt very supportive of each other and that was nice to see, because you sometimes read differently about couples."

Kate introduced the royals to NHS staff last October after they had been recognised with a Pride of Britain award.

William and Kate offered their support to the TV presenter, as Derek remained seriously ill in hospital after contracting Covid-19 in March 2020.

Derek, 53, returned home earlier this month and is now receiving around-the-clock care while being able to be with his wife and their two children.
