Kate Garraway read a heartfelt passage about love during a royal Christmas carol service.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 54, spoke the words of the poem named Love Came Down At Christmas at an event hosted at Westminster Abbey earlier this week.

The poem, by Christina Rossetti, read: “Love came down at Christmas, love all lovely, love divine, love was born at Christmas, star and angels gave the sign.

“Worship we the Godhead, love incarnate, love divine, worship we our Jesus, but wherewith for sacred sign, love shall be our token, love be yours, and love be mine.

“Love to God and all men, love for plea, and gift and sign.”

The Duchess of Cambridge hosted the Royal Carols: Together At Christmas service.

It was a lovely tribute to people who were an inspiration within their communities during the pandemic.

Ms Garraway’s family were devastated by the pandemic when her husband Derek Draper caught Covid and had a hospital stay of 13 months.

While he has returned home, the TV star revealed the extent of her husband’s illness during an episode of Piers Morgan’s Life Stories and she said he is still unable to communicate after Covid-19 caused brain inflammation.

In the interview, she said: “It’s devastated him.

“From the top of his head to the tip of his toe. His digestive system, his liver, his kidneys, his heart, his nervous system. We’re pretty sure that the inflammation did pass through the brain.

“He still can’t communicate, he still has issues with mobility. Fundamentally, he’s in a terrible state. Look, he’s alive, Piers.”

She received warm praise from many following the documentary Finding Derek earlier this year which showed her family life while her husband spent a year in hospital during his battle with Covid.

Finding Derek won the authored documentary prize at the National Television Awards in September.

*Royal Carols: Together At Christmas will air on Christmas Eve at 7.30pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
