Kate Garraway not on Good Morning Britain as concerns about Derek Draper’s health continue

Kate Garraway wasn't on Good Morning Britain today as concerns about Derek Draper’s health continue.

The ITV host is one of the regular faces on the panel and has taken the lead while Piers and Susanna are on their summer break.

She usually appears alongside Ben Shephard - who is currently filming the next series of Tipping Point - or Adil Ray, who instead appeared today with Charlotte Hawkins.

Because of this, there was no update on Derek’s condition.

He is still in intensive care following his Covid-19 battle which put him into a medically-induced coma.

While Derek no longer has the virus, Kate has said that the lasting effects of it on his organs is still unknown.

Earlier this month Kate discussed a new clinical trial that is researching whether Covid-19 patients can be treated with the blood plasma donated from those that had contracted and recovered from the virus.

The ITV presenter has spoken before about how she had attempted to offer her own blood back in April when Derek was still gravely ill from the virus.

She explained that as she also had Covid-19, and recovered, her blood would have the necessary antibodies to help her husband.

But she says that doctors would not let that happen, saying that they were "months away" from being confident enough to do that.

Speaking on GMB, Kate said: "The blood plasma treatment is too late to help Derek but the idea that we can spread things that are working on this show is wonderful.

"For me, doing positive at that point and now as well is wonderful and is something we can all do - well, those of us that have had the virus - to feel like we're helping.”

GMB airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
