Kate Garraway promises update on Derek Draper's condition after emotional hospital visit

Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway has revealed she is set to visit him after work on Monday as he recovers in hospital.

His tough battle with COVID-19 left him in a coma and has "attacked everything", leaving him with clots in his lungs, holes in his heart and made him diabetic.

Kate promised an update on his condition on Tuesday morning after she had seen him and spoken to the medical professionals who are taking care of him during his slow recovery process.

"I am hoping to see Derek after the show today so I will give you updates on him tomorrow," she said, winking at the camera.

She added: "I would like 2020 to calm down a little bit, I feel like there's enough going on at the moment."

Kate has been having a tough time recently as not only is she dealing with her husband's health battle, her tyre exploded on a busy motorway on Sunday.

She had been rushing back to see Derek after spending the afternoon at a socially distanced gathering in Kent.

"It's that moment where you think, 'I can't control the car', all weird steering, smoke, bits of rubber flying everywhere.

"I don't know if it was smoke but it looked like smoke, it could have been burning rubber.

"I managed to pull over, but the section of the motorway we were on, there wasn't a hard shoulder, and there was feeder road going off, so I was nervous about people coming up on the inside.

"So I called the AA and the drama unfolded, that's when you feel a bit panicky, because you're in live traffic."

She said there was no bank she could "scramble out on to" so she had to wait and hope no one drove into her car.

"Could you squeeze any more drama into your life please?" Ben Shephard asked incredulously.

"You know people say God and the universe doesn't send you what you can't deal with," replied Kate.

"I would like to put a message out, I am at my limit, I am at my absolute limit now.

"If the universe could just give me a calm Monday!"
