Kate Garraway issues update on husband Derek Draper's recovery 'challenges'

Kate Garraway issued an update on her husband Derek Draper's "challenges" as she returned to Good Morning Britain on Monday.

The television presenter was back hosting the popular breakfast show alongside Adil Ray this morning.

Kate discussed her husband Derek's condition as he continues to lie in a minimally-conscious state following a battle with coronavirus.

Derek was taken to hospital on March 29 after struggling to breathe, with doctors eventually putting him in an induced coma on April 5.

The 53-year-old former Labour Party adviser is yet to fully regain consciousness, with Kate returning to GMB last month as doctors urged her to "get on with life".

Birmingham Live reports Kate routinely and regularly issues updates on social media, and last night teased Instagram followers with news on Derek.

On Monday, the ITV1 presenter, who shares children Darcey and Billy with her husband, said: "It is a difficult balance.

"It was a worrying week last week. He still has a lot of challenges - a lot of challenges with food - just a lot of challenges, challenges with lungs, challenges with everything.

"We just want him to wake up. The nurses are putting this show on in the morning for him in the hope he will wake up and in the hope it may trigger something.

"It is a waiting game really but at least I have the chance to wait... because he is still with us."

Recently, Kate revealed she almost had a car crash when her tyre blew out as she drove her kids for the first time without her husband.

The presenter thanked the "amazing saviours" who "rescued" her following the "terrifying" car accident on the motorway.
