Kate Garraway isn’t allowed to see Derek Draper on their wedding anniversary

Kate Garraway says she isn’t allowed to see Derek Draper on their wedding anniversary, which is today.

The Good Morning Britain host said to her colleagues Adil Ray and Susanna Reid that it will be a ‘tough day’, but admitted that seeing him ‘might be a bit strange anyway’.

Derek is still in hospital after his covid-19 battle, which saw him put into an induced coma.

He has since awoken and is now starting to slowly recover from the damage that the virus has done to his body.

Kate, 53, recently took some time off the ITV show to help settle her children into school, but returned to work today.

She said: "It's actually Derek and I's wedding anniversary today, unbelievably.

"15 years today - Richard and Hilary were there on the day. But yeah, what an extraordinary thing.

"I won't be able to see him today. I kind of hoped I would but it hasn't worked out that way for the visits. But maybe it would be a bit strange anyway.

"So yeah, it's a tough day but he's still here, there's not a huge amount that's changed.”

Kate then went to address Susanna - who recently returned to the programme after her summer break - about not seeing her for a while.

“It’s very strange, I haven’t seen you for ages and Adil I haven’t seen you for a couple of weeks either,” she said.

“So much happens in that couple of weeks - there are so many seeming positives and then plunges, but then when I see people again, it’s just the same.

“But you have to think, at least he’s here.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
