Kate Garraway hoping to form a bubble with Derek so she can see him on Christmas Day

Kate Garraway has shared her hope that she can form a bubble with her husband Derek Draper so she can see him on Christmas Day.

The Good Morning Britain host, 53, responded to a fan who suggested the idea to her on Twitter, but she admitted that she isn't sure if this would be possible.

Under the new coronavirus restrictions announced on Saturday, those living in Tier 4, which includes London and some of the south east, can no longer mix with other households, including on Christmas Day.

Single adults who live alone or with young children can join up with another household as part of a social bubble.

Derek has been in hospital since March after getting coronavirus, and though he has recovered form the bug it has wreaked havoc on his body, leaving him with diabetes and holes in his lungs and heart.

It's unclear whether this means Derek can be in a bubble with Kate and their children Darcey, 13, and 11-year-old Billy, but she is remaining hopeful.

The fan tweeted: "I truly hope in all of this @kategarraway & her children gets to form a bubble and to see Derek.

"It's hard for all of us, but harder for her as her situation is unique."

Kate replied: "I hope so too Fatimah.

"Not quite clear at the moment but thank you for thinking of me and the others in the same situation xxx."

Derek was hospitalised in March after contracting coronavirus and was later put into an induced coma which lasted 13 weeks.

Doctors have warned Kate that Derek might never recover from the damage done to his body.

He woke up from the coma in July but he is still on a long road to recovery and remains in hospital.
