Kate Garraway hits out at Ben Shephard over birthday swipe as GMB fans can't believe her age

Ben Shephard teased his Good Morning Britain co-host Kate Garraway about her age as she celebrated her birthday on Thursday.

The GMB presenter kicked off the day by posting a snap of Kate in the studio as they prepared to host the ITV programme together.

He captioned the picture: "It’s her birthday and yes you’re right she’s had so many. Happy Birthday @kategarraway we salute you!"

On the show, Ben remarked: "There's so much preparation, organisation going on at the moment for... Kate Garraway's birthday," before adding: "Oh I think people are disappointed, they thought I was talking about the coronation."

Kate replied: "People keep saying, 'Oh we forgot'. How many years have I been on this show and you forgot? It's [also] Star Wars day."

Ben asked his co-host how old she was before joking that she turns 59 today.

"I would be proud to be 59. I am only, though, 56," Kate replied.

Later in the episode, the I'm A Celebrity star hit out at Ben for repeatedly teasing her about her age.

Kate said: "Ben is being very cheeky with me, winding me up!"

As the hosts spoke to Lorraine Kelly to find out what was coming up in her show, the Scottish presenter wished Kate a happy birthday and presented a chocolate muffin with a candle on the top.

Ben continued to suggest Kate had turned 60 but GMB viewers couldn't believe the presenter had, in fact, turned 56.

Writing on a Facebook page for the programme, one user said: "Happy 56th birthday Kate. Many happy returns xxxx."

Another tweeted: "Happy birthday Kate, 56 never looked better," while a third said: "56??? She looks amazing."

A third added: "Looks more like 46, looking great KG".

Elsewhere on Thursday's programme, Kate scolded her "rude" co-host after he insulted Carol Voderman's appearance.

Richard Arnold share a clip of Carol commenting on the latest I'm A Celebrity South Africa on Instagram while watching the episode on Wednesday night.

Commenting on the video, Richard remarked: "Carol clearly did her own make up," as Kate interjected: "How rude!"

The entertainment editor clarified he was teasing the Countdown star and had recently gone for lunch with his good friend Carol.
