Kate Garraway heartbroken for Damian Lewis after Helen McCrory's death

Kate Garraway has expressed her heartbreak for Damian Lewis and his family after the death of his wife Helen McCrory.

Helen's death was announced by Damian on social media yesterday, as he broke the news that his wife had died of cancer.

Helen, 52, was best known for her roles in Peaky Blinders and Harry Potter, but starred in multiple shows and projects.

Kate Garraway was the last person to interview Helen on TV on GMB and during the interview Kate asked Helen if she was ok.

Kate said: "Are you alright, Helen?

"You sound a bit croaky. Have you got a sore throat?"

The Peaky Blinders star retorted with a grin: "I've got children!"

Following the news of Helen's death Kate tweeted: "Terrible news devastated for @lewis_damian and for their children and all the family. A wonderful woman and together a wonderful pair who were always fun to interview and a great measure just to be around. Sending so much love to you all xxx."

On Friday, Helen's husband Damian posted the heartbreaking news on Twitter in an emotional statement.

He told fans his 'beautiful' wife had died peacefully at home after a 'heroic battle with cancer'.

He said: "I’m heartbroken to announce that after a heroic battle with cancer, the beautiful and mighty woman that is Helen McCrory has died peacefully at home, surrounded by a wave of love from friends and family.

"She died as she lived, Fearlessly. God we love her and know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives. She blazed so brightly. Go now, Little One, into the air, and thank you."
