Kate Garraway concerned as lockdown 'bans' her from seeing husband Derek in hospital

Kate Garraway has been left heartbroken and concerned about the repercussions after being banned' from seeing husband Derek Draper in hospital due to the new lockdown.

Good Morning Britain anchor Kate and her family have been put through the mill over the past year after former Labour aide Derek was taken into hospital with symptoms of coronavirus.

His condition quickly worsened and he was put in a medically induced coma by doctors, leaving Kate and the couple's children Billy and Darcy feeling helpless at home as they were unable to visit him.

Derek remains in hospital, with Kate revealing near the end of last year that his first words after his ordeal were "pain" which mouthed to nurses looking after him.

Prior to GMB's Christmas break, Kate said her big hope for the festive period was that she and the children would get to see Derek and, returning to the show on Thursday, she told co-presenter Ben Shepherd that they had managed to do just that.

But, she said that after all the emotion of their visit, things had been brought back down to earth with Boris Johnson putting the whole country back into lockdown again.

Opening up about the turmoil that puts her family in, she told Ben and viewers watching at home: "Instantly, now I'm in a position where even I can't visit.

"I've not been able to see him.

"We're into lockdown, no visits at all, which I hope doesn't continue for the whole of lockdown because I think that will be very impactful."

Listening to Kate's plight, one viewer tweeted: "I have massive respect for Kate Garraway, considering what she is going through, she must be in so much pain inside yet she does her job so professionally with a smile on her face.

"I pray your Husband pulls through and you & your family can be complete again"
