Kate Garraway has urgent consultation on GMB over eye problem amid coronavirus fears

Kate Garraway confessed she had a worrying problem with her eye on today's Good Morning Britain.

At the start of the show, Kate apologised for her appearance and admitted she was concerned about an eye infection.

However, brave Kate explained that she did not want to divert worried Dr Hilary Jones' attention from the coronavirus outbreak.

The GMB host then had an urgent consultation with the TV doctor during the ad break, prompting a discussion on when you should seek routine medical advice.

Explaining what was wrong, Kate said: "I should apologise for my appearance by the way. It's nothing to do with the coronavirus.

"I’ve got a little eye infection which is making my eye a bit watery, meaning I’m wearing my glasses.

"As we have to do our own hair and make-up at the moment maybe it's no bad thing you can’t see too much detail."

After a discussion on coronavirus test kits, Dr Hilary claimed Kate's eye looked "very sore".

Kate replied: "Thank you Hills. I feel like we can’t divert your attention from anything other than keeping the nation calm over coronavirus."

Telling Kate to go to "conjunctivitis.com", Hilary joked: "It's a sight for sore eyes."

Giggling Kate added: "We don’t need a pandemic of Hilary’s jokes. That's the last ting we need at this stage."

Later on, Kate told Ben Shephard that she wasn't winking at him and he should not get excited.

Asking if she'd had a diagnosis, Ben said: "Not for the first time, struggling with that right eye of yours. Making you look acceptable - that is a big job."

Dr Hilary revealed they'd had a consultation and came up with plan of action with some antibiotic drops.

This prompted a serious discussion on people being nervous about contacting their doctor - with Kate admitting she felt her eye was a "petty" matter.

Dr Hilary said if she had sight problems then it would be an optical emergency and she would be seen.

However, routine checks for glasses and dentist check ups should be cancelled.
