Kate Garraway got emotional as she watched the new John Lewis Christmas advert for the first time.
The retailer released its hotly anticipated festive advert this morning from John Lewis and Partners, which shows the power of a sweet friendship between teenager Nathan and alien Skye.
Kate and her co-host Ben Shephard watched the full video together on air and the presenter was clearly moved by the video, and as the camera panned back to the duo sat at their desks, Kate sighed as she looked over at Ben.
"I know," Kate shared as Ben confessed everyone in the studio was "pretty close to the edge" of tears.
Kate remained quiet for a moment as she reflected on the two minute advert, which "celebrates the magic of Christmas moments experienced for the first time".
Clearly still emotional, she added: "There's undertones of loss and departure and gifting and loving."
The two then crossed over to a consumer reporter whilst they all "pulled themselves together" in the studio, who joked that the pair were getting very "soppy" over the ad.
The stunning advert has been soundtracked by up and coming 20-year-old British singer-songwriter Lola Young, who hails from South London, who performs her version of 80s classic track, Together in Electric Dreams.
The commercial follows the story of Nathan, who spots a flashing light as he heads home from school. Chasing the light into the wood, he comes across 14-year-old space traveller Skye, whose ship has crashed.
In a bid to break the ice between the pair, Nathan has made adaptions to his Christmas jumper, as he adds a star and twinkly lights to his festive get up to make it more like Skye's.
The pair quickly form a friendship as they celebrate her first Christmas together, which includes him bringing her fairy lights from his family’s tree, and after their family meal, he brings Skye a mince pie, which she loves.
They take part in lots more traditional festive activities including watching Christmas films and playing in the snow, before it is sadly time for her to return to her home planet.
And in the final moments, Nathan gifts Skye his Christmas jumper, the one he wore when they first met, as she departs Earth and disappears into the night sky, leaving a twinkling star on a Christmas tree in the distance.
