Kate Garraway fell ill with kidney problem after filming BBC documentary

Kate Garraway has said that she fell ill with a kidney problem after filming a new BBC documentary on nature.

The 54-year-old presenter recently appeared on BBC Two series Walking With... as she goes for a wander in the Cotswolds country side by herself with a drone.

Opening up about shooting the documentary, Kate said that she had initially felt guilty about leaving husband Derek and children Darcey and Billy for the first time.

"It was my first day without Derek and without Darcey and Billy," she explained to hosts Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid. "It was amazing and I felt guilty and that I shouldn't be there."

However, Kate said that she was very relieved that she filmed the show in the end as it helped her mentally.

"I came back and felt incredibly refreshed," she said.

Yet, Kate said that she did suffer health issues unrelated to filming afterwards and said: "I actually wasn't feeling that well after that, I found out I had a kidney infection. But I didn't know at the time so the BBC aren't in any way responsible! "

Speaking further about filming in nature, she said: "It's hugely healing. the wonderful thing about nature is that really kind of reminds you about the beauty of things...

"Nature isn't a postcard, it is life. you have the wonderful moment and you have the tough moments."

It comes after Kate yesterday spoke heartbreakingly in the documentary about how the "only person [she] wants to hug her can't do it".

Derek contracted coronavirus -1>coronavirus back in early 2020, leading him to spend 20 months in hospital struggling with the virus.

“I’ve had moments of great loneliness and fear,” said Kate, as she wandered in the Cotswolds countryside.

“It’s hard because the person I wanted to give me a hug is the person that can’t – and that’s Derek.

“There’s something about coming here and reminding yourself that you can feel the countryside wrapping its arms around you and giving you love back. I feel very grateful for today.”
