Kate Garraway facing 'financial mess' as husband remains in hospital after coronavirus battle

Kate Garraway has opened up about the 'financial mess' she faces as her husband remains in hospital, more than seven months after contracting coronavirus.

The virus has confined the Good Morning Britain star's other half Derek Draper to a hospital bed since March after the former Labour aide first showed symptoms at the end of March.

After being taken into hospital, his condition declined at an alarming rate, with doctors putting him into a medically induced coma.

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate revealed in the summer that her other half was free from COVID-19 but broke down on air as she revealed that the devastating effects it had on his body, including his severe damage to several of his vital organs.

On Monday's Lorraine she opened up about her heartache over Derek's big breakthrough when he mouthed his first word in months - "pain."

And she has also now revealed the financial difficulties her family are in due to his health battle.

Speaking to GMB colleagues Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid she said: "One of the practical problems - which a lot of people would've experienced if they've got the absence of someone in their life - like many things the car is entirely in Derek's name, the insurance is in Derek's name, a lot of our bank accounts.

"There are a lot of financial goings that I've talked to you both about going on, which is making life very complicated because I can't get access to things.

"Because legally I haven't got power of attorney. And all this other stuff that goes on when you're dealing with a situation where someone's been sick for a long time."
