Kate Garraway considered pulling out of I'm A Celebrity weeks before launch

I'm A Celebrity 2019 star Kate Garraway almost pulled out of the line-up just weeks before the launch, according to Piers Morgan.

Her Good Morning Britain co-star claimed she called him three or four weeks ago, "in two minds" over whether to do the ITV series hosted by Ant and Dec.

Kate was confirmed to be on the line-up this week, with other jungle stars including Jacqueline Jossa, Ian Wright and Caitlyn Jenner.

But it seems she almost didn't do there series, fearing it could go one of two ways - with Piers claiming he was quick to reassure her she should take up the opportunity.

Kate Garraway apparently had second thoughts about I'm A Celebrity (ITV/REX)

Speaking on the ITV morning show on Tuesday after the confirmation Kate was on the bill, Piers said fans would love Kate on the show.

He said on air: "Kate rang me about three or four weeks ago when she first got approached.

"She said what do you think and I said, 'Do you know what, you should absolutely do it'."

Piers Morgan said he urged Kate to do the show (ITV)

Piers added: "I said if you do this show you can hang out for three weeks in the jungle.

"I think she is going to be very hard working. People will love her. She is going to be all the gritty things you need."

But Susanna Reid wasn't so sure about his claims of Kate having second thoughts.

Kate was apparently in two minds (ITV)

She said: "I think she only rang you as a courtesy call. I don’t think Kate was in any doubt about doing it."

But Piers insisted this was the case, adding: "No no no. She was genuinely in two minds because it can go two ways.

"If you get bounced out straight away and that public rejection."

I'm A Celebrity 2019 launches Sunday 17th November at 9pm on ITV.
