Kate Garraway confirms break from Good Morning Britain to care for husband and spend time with kids

Kate Garraway is taking a break from Good Morning Britain to look after her husband and spend time with her children, she has confirmed.

The presenter returned to the ITV show in July for the first time since March, after her husband Derek Draper contracted coronavirus.

He remains in hospital and his recovery is still unclear due to the damage Covid-19 has caused to his body.

On Friday Kate confirmed she will not be returning next week and thanked fans and ITV for their support since her return.

She said she wanted to spend some time with her children as they prepare to go back to school.

Kate added she wanted to spend time with Derek and help him as he continues his recovery in hospital.

On Wednesday's show, the hosts had spoken to Dynasty actress Emma Samms, who still suffers from breathlessness and fatigue after contracting the virus back in March.

"That is something you and I have spoken about with Derek," Kate told Dr Hilary Jones.

"Once the virus has gone, it's the long-term damage."

Kate added that she is writing a self-help book called Good Morning Life: How To Wake Up Every Day And Smile.

She is now editing the book to include "insights" from her experience with Derek and his Covid-19 battle.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
