Kate Garraway bids emotional goodbye to Derek's office - but vows he'll return one day

Kate Garraway has bid an emotional goodbye Derek Draper 's office and therapy rooms.

The Good Morning Britain presenter admitted she had been "dragging [her] feet" over the decision to close the offices, as she didn't want to appear to "give up hope" on her husband returning to work again one day.

Thanking the removal company for their help, the mum-of-two remained positive about the situation - promising to call the same team when Derek is setting up his next venture.

The author fell victim to the deadly coronavirus -1>coronavirus in early 2020, and was left critically ill and hospitalised for more than a year.

Kate, 54, recently made an award-winning documentary about the 54-year-old's struggle with the life-threatening disease, and how she and their family cope with former journalist's declining health.

On Wednesday afternoon, the ITV star took to her Instagram account to share the latest development in adapting to life following Derek's heart-breaking battle.

Posting a snap of herself with a removal van and a helper, Kate updated her one million followers about the moving process.

"So… one of things have been tackling is packing up Derek’s therapy rooms & office," she began her caption.

"Had been dragging my feet because I knew it would be so emotional & because didn’t want to seem to be giving up hope of him returning to the work he loves one day.

Then the building was put up for sale and we had to clear out - fate !"

She continued: "Next problem was the huge task of packing up all his files, his cuttings, books and furniture he’s treasured for decades.

Step forward the team from @davisandmac - this is not an ad just a hearty recommendation of a great team of lads who worked damn hard and were so sensitive to the situation ."

The star concluded: "Thanks a million chaps - will be definitely calling you when Derek is setting up his new venture!"

ITV colleague Susanna Reid was one of the many to comment on the moving post, writing: " Well done team."

In September, Kate won a National Television Award for her moving documentary about her husband's ordeal, Finding Derek.

After being awarded with the gong for Best Documentary, the broadcaster revealed she would like to make a follow-up feature.

"Yes, is the simple answer," the mum-of-two told reporters when quizzed about a potential sequel to Finding Derek.

"There is a lot of challenges that we're facing now. I am now experiencing being a carer, and the challenges that are there."

"We all know social care has been in the headlines for lots of reasons and for lots of reasons people need support with health and social care," she continued.

"There are definitely more stories to tell. Let's hope that Derek's voice will be giving those stories. We know he's in there. We just have to get him out."
