Kate Garraway awkwardly watched 'saucy' Bridgerton scenes with daughter Darcey, 14

Kate Garraway has revealed she mustered up the courage to finally catch up on Bridgerton with her 14-year-old daughter Darcey.

However the Good Morning Britain host, 53, was left red-faced after coming across "saucy" scenes in the Netflix period drama that left her more awkward than ever.

The hit show - which has broken streaming records - explores the love lives and movements of a family in 1800s Regency England.

The first season focuses particularly on the marital prospects of the eldest Bridgerton daughter, Daphne, and her fiery romance with the roguish Duke of Hastings.

And after finally hitting play on the period drama, it suddenly hit Kate that this series was more raunchy than she had anticipated.

During a segment on Good Morning Britain on Thursday, Kate couldn't help but bring up the racy aspect of the show with Lady Danbury star Adjoa Andoh.

"It’s wonderful escapism," Kate said. "I was lured into it by my teenage daughter who said, 'Mum, you’re gonna love this, it’s a costume drama', obviously knowing how to press my buttons..."

She continued: "If you’ve got a teenage daughter you know the idea of them wanting to do anything with you is exciting."

Kate went on: "So we sat down and watched it together and I suddenly found myself thinking, 'Am I watching a costume drama or am I watching Love Island?'

"It’s quite saucy, isn’t it? I almost thought should I be encouraging her to watch this? But then actually said, 'Mum, I wish I could wear a ball dress'.

"Normally she looks like Billie Eilish so I thought, I’m weighing up the idea of getting her into a dress because of this," she added.

It comes as the hit series has been confirmed for a second season.

Produced by Shonda Rhimes’ company, Shondaland, the show has drawn attention for sex-filled scenes and scandalous storylines as well as the genetically-blessed cast - who will be returning for the next season.

The news was announced by Netflix last month in a fun press release that mimicked Bridgerton's Lady Whistledown's column.
