Derek has recently returned to his family home in London following a year-long battle with Covid-19 and its lasting impact in a hospital bed (ITV)

Derek is now back at home after spending a year in hospital.

In March 2020 he tested positive for coronavirus, which wreaked havoc on his body, leaving him with clots in his lungs, holes in his heart and diabetes.

He was also in an induced coma for several months.

Derek came home in April, but doctors have warned Kate that it will be a long road to recovery.

Speaking on The Andrew Marr Show last month, Kate said Derek "can't really move" and only has minimal communication.

She explained: "He came home on April the 7th so we're a few weeks into it now. How is he? Look, he's devastated by Covid.

"He can't really move, his communication is very minimal. There are moments where there's up, you feel you know he's in there. He has a lot of memory.

"But the accessing of it is very limited. He's a long way from the Derek Draper that you know Andrew but he's home and he's alive, he's asleep now."
